Thamesford WWTP Upgrades - Zorra Township
Location
10 Middleton Street Thamesford, ON N0M 2M0Client
Oxford County Status: In Progress Consultant: RV Anderson Associated LimitedThe project is located at the Thamesford Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), a Class II extended aeration activated sludge facility that discharges treated effluent into the Middle Thames River. The plant has experienced periodic nitrification issues due to the fouling of the aeration mixing pump/injectors by rags in the reconfigured aeration tank during cold weather. These issues led to four non-compliance events related to ammonia over the preceding three years. Additionally, the shutdown of the Maple Leaf Food Processing Plant in 2018 caused inflows to drop by nearly 70%, with the WWTP now operating at only 23% of its rated capacity. The County responded to these challenges with a conceptual design that includes several major upgrades. The project’s primary scope involves the construction of a new headworks building that incorporates 100% screen redundancy, grit settling equipment, grit classifier, screenings press, and screenings bin, and associated mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The upgraded facility will also include operator support infrastructure, such as change rooms and a trailer-accessible office space. Additional upgrades include converting the existing aeration systems with fine bubble diffuser system, miscellaneous electrical and I&C upgrades, and effluent water system.
